The PRSSA Grand Valley Chapter was generous enough to invite people outside of the society to join them for their final meeting of the 2016-2017 school year. The meeting began with awarding hard working students for their achievements throughout the year and continued with updates on individual student projects. The students who would be taking over the graduating senior’s positions were also introduced such as the new CEO, President, etc.

The most rewarding part of my experience at the PRSSA meeting was the ability to hear from PR and Communications professionals Andy Hetzel and William Nowling.

Andy Hetzel is the VP of Communications at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. He spoke with us about the importance of Health Communication, then passed the presentation to William Nowling. Nowling works for Finn Partners and specializes in Crisis Communication. They both shared their extensive experience in and outside of the Communications field.

I was impressed to see how engaged everyone was while simultaneously live tweeting using the #PRWednesday and mentioning both Hetzel and Nowling. Both were very lively, entertaining individuals who seemed to enjoy sharing their knowledge of Public Relations with what they said was an “impressive audience”.

This experience has prompted me to look more into the PRSSA organization and consider joining in the future. I have never been so excited to see where Public Relations takes me!
